- Weigh your pet — compare your dog's weight to the recommended ranges above (lbs).
- Measure the flat surface where you plan to use the mat (crate floor, carrier, countertop). Allow at least 1–2 inches of clearance around the mat for a secure, flat placement.
- Quick muzzle check: while your pet is relaxed, place the mat where they will lick it and ensure their nose easily reaches the center without awkward stretching. If the pet can comfortably rest its head on the mat, the fit is good.
